With nothing to gain from her true identity or lose as a fake, Kate fights to secure what she perceives as a better life. In the process, she will discover how long a person can pretend to be someone they are not before becoming the pretense.

Okay..the long and short of this for is that I don't normally get into short stories at all unless they are the works of someone I truly enjoy reading..and this is the case with Falling Snow. I do so enjoy Mr. Harken's work and this read continued my belief in Mr. Harken as an author who's best work is yet to come. Love his work!Falling Snow is in many ways happening today but not quiet as extreme as it is at the time of Snow's move to Ascendant which brings her a shot at a dream life....but she has choices to make and little time to make them. I think she made the right choice...what about you...do you think she did?
Social interaction on the internet has come a long way but it is destined to go much, much further....further maybe than it should. Snow is her Persona ID, the name all know her by but she must keep her true identity hidden lest she fall into the hands of the Ministry of Information and be dealt with rather harshly. The mantra in the Snow's world is: Disclosure begets sponsors. Sponsors beget gifts. Gifts beget order. Order is bliss....and bliss is her way out.
Short story endings have a way of leaving me deflated for the most part but for me in this offering, I'll have to say that I was pleased with this ending....it left me with a good feeling and that it what it's about for me!!

Snow Falling eBook Robert Harken Reviews
The extrapolation of trends that cast long shadows over the current landscape is the most plausible basis for a dystopia. This is exactly what Robert Harken did with his short story, "Snow Falling".
I also found it to be well-written and suspenseful. The central character has a back story that will cause readers to sympathize with her. Readers may put themselves in her place and wonder whether we would do the same in her circumstances. Is Kate strong or is she simply desperate?
This is a painful story, so I can't say that I enjoyed reading it. but it did have power. It caused me to take a second look at Social Networking, and wonder where it might be leading our society.
