The Little Survival Guide for Nannies is a how-to book chock full of information and advice based on more than 30 years experience in the nanny industry. Organisations such as the Roads and Traffic Authority, Australian Taxation Office, SIDS and Kids and Kidsafe have supported the authors to provide accurate, up-to date information by allowing the them to use their information and images.

Disclaimer: I am an American early childhood educator with over ten years experience teaching preschool and directing programs for children. I am currently a full-time Nanny and was looking to learn more about the dos/don'ts of the profession. For my intended purposes, this book was excellent. However, the reader should be aware that most of the resources (especially those dealing with legal issues) are for the Australian Nanny. This makes perhaps 20 pages or so of the book unusable for any other audience.
Despite this, I found the suggested activities and the author's insightful perspective on landing a job extremely useful. The author and I disagree over many issues which I believe are not developmentally appropriate for children, such as sending them to time-out, and using the oh-so-hated "clean up" song found in many preschools today. Still, many of the stories the author gives offer insightful ways to reflect on my own practice and the mistakes I've made so far, such as cooking my family's special dish better than they did or putting away the parent's laundry.
As perhaps the only male Nanny in my entire state, I know first-hand how high the barriers into this profession can be. That being said, I found this book with its unique humor and insight most helpful.
