Let my start by saying that house work and sleep were harmed in the reading of this book. I literally could not put it down and read it from start to finish. It definitely held my interest the whole time. With that said, I did have to get used to the writing style. I am used to reading novels in the first person and not the third. There were moments that I wish the book was written from their perspectives, but that is just my personal taste. This is the first book in the Of Love and Madness Series, I am not sure if the whole series will be following Billy and Katie or if each book is meant to be read as a standalone and about different characters. As much as the secondary characters intrigued me, I hope the series will still follow Billy and Katie because even though it did not really leave off on a cliffhanger, there are some unresolved issues. There were moments I really liked them, but there were moments when I wanted to reach through the book, hit them upside the head and say "THAT WAS DUMB" or "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING???" But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that their poor choices made them more human. I know plenty of real life humans that I want to say those things to on a daily basis, including myself. They made mistakes, they made bad decisions, they are flawed, they didn't have the best childhoods, they have struggles, they listened to their heart and not always their brains, but they also want to be loved, they want to follow their dreams, they want what's best for their family and they want to be happy. I am looking forward to seeing what lies ahead in the series.Product details

If you like story's that show real characters, who make real mistakes in the difficult journey we call life, if you like story's that don't have a traditional storyline, and story's you get to watch the characters progress as they learn from their mistakes, then you'll love Billy and Katie.
Some of my all time favorite books including The Love Me With Lies series by Tarryn Fisher, The True Love Series by M.j. Fields, Carnage Series by Leslie Jones and Thoughtless (book one) by S.C. Stephen are non Traditional books that people either love or hate. At This Moment wasn't the same story line as these, but it did give me the same kind of feels.
In fact I'm going to keep this review short and sweet, because I'm impatient to move on to book number two!
What a surprise. This is a trilogy that spans over 20 years between Kate and Billy. They both have issues Kate has domineering parents and is always the good daughter, an only child. Billy has anger issues, and drinking and drug problems. Kate wants to please billy so much she doesn't know when to say no. They meet when she's at college and she's 18 and he's 23 years. This is their love story. This book has cheating as a warning for people that may have issues with that. This is a wonderful book, that has lots of feels you can really connect with. You won't be disappointed.
Karen Cimm's debut novel is a heartbreaking tale that you will devour in one sitting and will leave you wanting more. Billy and Kate are well-written, flawed but sympathetic people who you are rooting for but who manage to get in their own way. You simultaneously want to hug and slap them. It's a love story but so much more and you won't want it to end.
At this Moment is the first in the Of Love and Madness trilogy and Karen Cimms debut novel. I would never have guessed this was a first novel with the level of storytelling and depth of characters backstory. This trilogy will span twenty five years with flashbacks to childhood, though this book is their young adult years.
Their downfall is always going to be secrets and miscommunication. Billy isn't forthcoming with the truth often enough from guilt and Katie is close lipped and accepting far too often. Joey, Katie's bff seems to be the only one telling it like he sees it. They're both a mess from their crappy childhoods and it's going to be a problem for a long time it looks like. Billy got his dad's horrible temper but he doesn't seem to notice his substance abuse problem gifted from his mother which causes him to make really poor decisions. Katie had goals and dreams up until she met Billy and they have vanished. If she'd put pen to paper and become the writer she said she wanted to be, they might have had an easier time with more income.
I love how they love each other. I love how they make each other better but not quite good enough. I love how they love their kids. The life of a talented rocker right on the cusp and never quite making it is heartbreaking. The industry is full of sharks who eat people alive for their own sport. The life of a mother raising kids alone a lot of the time because of a traveling husband is just as heartbreakingly lonely. I want them to catch a break, but if everything was smooth sailing it would be a boring story.
I'm looking forward to reading the two remaining books in this trilogy.
I wished I had loved this story. Yes there were some realistic parts to the story but really? The rock star, Billy, wasn't someone I would want as a boyfriend or husband. Honestly, I don't understand why he would want to be with Katie when all he wanted was to run away and be a big musician. Of course he loved her, but I just don't think he really cared for her. And Katie was very uninspiring to me, unfortunately. No drive, or dreams of her own. I was disappointed in her.
Not sure I want to continue with the next one. This story was too long and if the others are like this one, sadly I don't want to join in.
This is part/book one of three. I have read all three before I posted here. I enjoyed the journey that Kate and Billy had since the moment they met. Each had dark pasts that left emotional baggage that could tear them apart. They meet while she was just starting out in college. He was a aspiring musician. Their love was deep from the first. But will it endure the hectic demands of an up and coming new band that he is with. The drugs, alcohol and groupies that are with any type of band can tear a person down. Can their love be enough? This ended in a cliffhanger and with enough angst and OW it could spell doom for Billy and Kate.
